I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe holiday season. It’s time to start thinking about the 2012 boating season which is just around the corner. I am honored to have been elected as your Commodore for 2012. My name is Mike Pacana, aboard “Knot On Call” in slip A-22, along with my wife Susan, and son, Michael. We have been involved in boating most of our lives which included fishing the waters of Southern New Jersey and the Delaware Bay, and most recently, cruising the Chesapeake Bay. We have been slip holders at SNM and members of the Yacht Club for the past 6 years.
The success of our Yacht Club depends on membership. One of our goals for 2012 is to increase our membership, and we need your help! We appreciate the participation of past club members, and hope that we can count on your support with a renewal of your membership in 2012. We also like to welcome our new members, and hope that you enjoy the benefits and camaraderie our club has to offer. For those who are undecided, I would like to share with you our first experience with the Yacht Club. When we transitioned from fishing to cruising the Chesapeake in our 34 foot Sundancer, we did not know quite what to expect, so we decided to join the yacht club to meet people and learn from their experiences. Our first event was a 3-day July 4th weekend raft-up at Fairlee Creek. We asked to be on the end, “just in case” things did not work out. Well, needless to say, we stayed an extra day, and met fellow boaters on that trip that have become our best friends through the years. We also felt more comfortable traveling in unfamiliar waters with a knowledgeable group of friends, and we continue to enjoy trips together.
Our enthusiastic and dedicated yacht club officers are currently planning and finalizing details for our 2012 season Cruise and Land Events that incorporate the values of the Yacht Club’s mission of, “Fostering Recreational Boating Safety while establishing Fellowship and Camaraderie.” All of our events last year were a great success, culminated by our “Member Appreciation Cruise” at Bay Bridge Marina. In addition to our social events, the yacht club offers several other benefits that include: savings on fuel at the marina, education events, discounts at marine supply stores and restaurants, and membership in CBYCA. We are also updating the SNYC website (
http://www.summitnorthyachtclub.com), and evaluating other forms of social media.
Enclosed is the 2012 membership form (printable version) to be completed and returned. Please fill out the form, which will also serve as the return mailer for your check. Everyone who signs up for membership in 2012 will be entered in a drawing to receive a $100 gift certificate for fuel to be given out on SNM’s Opening Day. The form contains the events for 2012 and the names and contact information for the officers. We are also looking into the possibility of returning to beautiful Herrington Harbour South for the 2012 “Member Appreciation Cruise.” I encourage you to get your forms in as early as possible. The event registration form will be emailed to you once you’ve returned your membership application. When you receive the event form, select the cruise events that you plan on attending. Some events will have limited space, so be sure to get your forms in early.
Thank you again for supporting the Summit North Yacht Club, and have a safe and enjoyable boating season.
